🔬 Physical Inspection
Serial Number Present
Genuine AXIS wings have a serial number engraved on the mounting pedestal. A blank pedestal is an INSTANT FAIL — the single fastest check.
Clean Hardware Inserts
Check M8 bolt holes for visible filler or epoxy. Genuine = precision-bonded with zero adhesive visible. Visible filler = counterfeit.
Pedestal Junction Layup
Genuine AXIS has BLACK OVERSPRAY covering the pedestal-to-wing transition areas (above AND below mounting plate). Bare, messy carbon fibers = INSTANT FAIL.
QR Code Quality
Genuine QR codes are crisp and scan to AXIS verification. Blurry, low-res QR codes with bleeding modules = counterfeit.
Surface Finish Quality
Look for orange peel texture, waviness in reflections, inconsistent gloss zones, or dust inclusions. Genuine wings have a flawless, even finish.
Trailing Edge Precision
Check for rough finish or asymmetric scalloped cutouts (signs of hand-trimming vs CNC machining).
Mounting Pedestal Quality
Genuine = precision molded, seamless transition. Counterfeit = glossy black plastic, crude transition, rough bolt holes.
Carbon Fiber Weave
Genuine AXIS uses high-modulus carbon with consistent density. Counterfeits have coarser weave, inconsistent density, or may be cosmetic carbon over fiberglass.
Logo & Text Quality
Check for soft/bleeding print edges vs genuine pad-printing. Look at model ID and bolt spec text for compressed or misaligned fonts.
Mold Parting Line
AXIS post-processes parting lines away. A visible mold seam is a medium-confidence counterfeit indicator.
📸 Photo Analysis— Scammers use photo tricks to hide defects
Clean, Well-Lit Photos
SCAMMER TECHNIQUE: Using shadowy photos (tree shadows, poor lighting) to obscure surface details and hide imperfections. Genuine sellers take clear photos because they have nothing to hide. Heavy shadows = hiding something.
Multiple Angles Shown
Genuine sellers show all angles — top, bottom, leading edge, trailing edge, bolt holes, pedestal/base plate. Limited angles = hiding defects. Ask for specific close-ups.
Close-Up Detail Shots
Look for at least one close-up of: serial number, QR code, hardware inserts, and carbon weave. Far-away-only photos that prevent detail inspection = red flag.
Not Stock/Stolen Images
Reverse image search the listing photos. Scammers often steal photos from real listings or use manufacturer stock images. A quick Google Image search can reveal this.
📋 Listing Red Flags
Price Is Realistic
Genuine used AXIS foils typically sell for 60-80% of retail. Anything 40%+ below retail is suspicious. Use the Price Check tab to verify.
Actual Product Photos
Listing shows real photos of the actual item, not stock images from the AXIS website.
Cover/Bag Shown
Genuine AXIS products come with matching covers. "Stored in another cover" is a known scammer excuse — counterfeits don't come with covers.
Receipt or Proof of Purchase
Seller can provide original receipt from an authorized AXIS dealer.
🧑 Seller Behavior
Willing to Show Serial Number
Ask the seller for a close-up of the serial number. Ghosting or excuses after this request = classic scammer behavior.
Has Foiling Knowledge
A genuine seller can talk about how the product rides, what setup they used it with, why they're selling.
Offers Local Pickup
Shipping-only with no local pickup option is a red flag. Scammers avoid in-person transactions.
📌 What to Always Ask a Seller (Wing)
- Close-up of bolt holes / hardware inserts
- QR code (close enough to scan)
- Serial number on mounting pedestal
- Cover/bag (should be AXIS-branded)
- Receipt or proof of purchase from authorized dealer
- Well-lit, shadow-free photos from multiple angles
